Happy Earth Day 2012!

Posted on 23rd April, 2012 by Nicole Lazzaro in Uncategorized. No Comments

We’ve been blown away here by the reception of Tilt World for the iPhone. I am super proud of my team who worked around the clock (literally) for months to bring the game to you in time for Earth Day. We’ve been mentioned in over a thousand publications world wide. Forbes compared us to the next Instagram, and downloads of the game exceed expectations. Had to take a walk through the Rose Garden to take it all in. All this good news aside, what I’m most excited about is Flip’s Earth Day challenge to players and to me. For those who haven’t met Flip let me introduce. Flip’s the eco-hero of our game, a tadpole determined to reforest Shady Glenn that has been deforested by a toxic green Blight.

Tilt World Earth Day Challenge

Flip Challenges Nicole to Go Plant Trees

Here’s the deal. Once players post 3 Million Tilt  Points, Flip sends me packing to Madagascar to plant the first 1,000 trees. Along for the ride will be one lucky winner who posted the 3 millionth Tilt Point. Lucky them! Be sure to Sign In on the Impact Book so we know who you are!

In the buzz following my announcement at  DEMO I’ve been getting a lot of questions about what playsourcing means. As most of you know, XEOPlay’s mission is to improve the quality of our lives through play. Playsourcing means using play as a source of human motivation to help people change themselves and change their world.  Gamification tends to focus on adding points and badges to increase engagement, but playsourcing is about play designed to have a direct impact in the real world.

As game designers playsourcing means creating experiences that empower players to change the world. In Tilt World we plant trees. In future games we will do even more. Tilt World is just a first proof of concept of our larger playsourcing vision.

In Tilt World we want to give players an experience of changing the world directly. Games already provide an experience of hope that empowers them to consider new ways to solve old problems. With Tilt World we want to do this in a way where players can see eco-recovery progress from space.

For those interested in hearing more. I’ll be moderating a globalization panel at the Digital Kids Conference in LA next week and will give a presentation on the Future of Gamification at the Gamification Summit June 19-21.

There would be no game without the talent to bring the vision to life, therefore in closing I’d like to thank my team again especially those who helped in the final push: Chuck Soper, Erik Bryn, Dan Super, Iggy Mederios, Matt Petyo, Glenn Hernandez, Stuart Dubey, Celia Black, Jeff Kell, Nick Rizzo, and Adrian Vasquez. You all worked tirelessly and I’m proud of what we’ve accomplished together and can’t wait to launch our next creation!

Keep Tilting and spread the word. You can download Tilt World here. /end shameless plug 🙂

Looking forward to chatting with you in the comments.

Fiero!

  • GDC 2014 It’s Full of People
Always one of my favorite shows, last week’s Game Developer’s Conference (GDC) offered a surprising turning point for games. Although many struggled to define the one thing that defined this annual gathering of game developers from around the world; to me GDC14 was a watershed event. Hidden behind the explosion of VR headsets and ways […]
